Chris Yep – 2012 Player of the Year!

A tight race at the top of the Masters Points standings over the past few months has finished with the last points event of the year, and Chris Yep holds on for a win by a single point over challenger Bob Hickey to secure the title of Player of the Year for 2012. Bob started the year off strong with 2 tournaments wins early, but Chris finished just a little stronger to win by the slimmest of margins.

Congratulations, Chris!

December Monthly Tournament Results

A small field of 5 players showed up today to compete and to see the results of the year-long campaign for the top position of the Masters Points standings. Due to the size of the field, a round robin was played. The final results were a 5-way tie, with everyone finishing 2-2. As per the rules, all players received 15 points towards their Masters Points totals.

The next monthly tournament will be held on January 13th, 2013.  Please note that we will be playing our Monthly Tournament on the second Sunday of the month starting in 2013. See you there!

November Monthly Tournament Results

7 players came out this month to compete in the club’s monthly tournament. This time around, Chris Yep was able to notch his first tournament win of the season with a win over points co-leader, Bob Hickey in the main final. Bob went on to defeat Ted Smith in the consolation final. This result gives Chris a slim 1 point lead in the Masters Points race with one tournament left in the year.

It’s sure to be an exiting finish next month! Congrats to Chris again, on his first win of the year!

The full standings can be found here. The next monthly tournament will be held on December 2nd, 2012. See you there!

October Monthly Tournament Results

This past Sunday found 7 souls who were brave enough to venture out into the (relative) cold and compete. Dale Berlin fought his way to the top again for his second win of the year, defeating Jason Marshall in the Main Final. Chris Yep earned his fourth second place of the year in the Consolation Final.

Much like last month, this month’s tournament has served to tighten the race at the top of the Masters Points race for 2012. With Dale’s win this month he as moved into 3rd place overall. Even more dramatically, Chris has managed to moved into a tie with Bob Hickey for first place! With only 2 months left to determine the Player of the Year, it may come down to the wire!

The next monthly tournament will be held on November 4th, 2012. See you there!

Michigan tops Ohio in State Showdown

Thanks to our intrepid reporter, Mary Hickey, we have learned that in this year’s Michigan-Ohio Challenge the Michigan team was the first to reach the needed 33 wins to seal the victory. Each team was represented by 8 players, who then competed in a round-robin against all of the members of the other team. Our own Bob and Mary Hickey were there to compete on behalf of our state and our club.

A big thank you goes out to Karen Davis for hosting the event at her home, and to Paul Berg for serving as tournament director!
