The threat of inclement weather in the Central Ohio weather kept our attendance down to a respectable 7 players for the last monthly tournament of the year, but it was not enough to keep Mike Rezai out of the winner’s circle. John Bath and David Rearick battled in the Consolation Final, with David coming out on top for second place.

In attendance were 2 new folks – Tad Mitchell, who played this month, and Dan Hanley who spectated this time around.

Congratulations to Mike on his third tournament win of the year, and welcome to Tad and Dan!

The five players that showed up this month played a round-robin tournament for this month’s points. After all 5 rounds had been played, points leader Bob Hickey stood victorious over the field with his 6th tournament win of the year. Left tied for second place were Chris Yep, David Steinberg, and Jason Marshall.

Congratulations to Bob on his win this month. Hopefully we will see everyone at the final tournament of the year, scheduled to be held on December 8th!

The top 7 players in the Master Points standings were all present for this month’s Monthly Tournament. After all rounds were completed, Bob Hickey came out on top as this month’s winner. Chris Yep took second place with a win over Jason Marshall in the Consolation Final. With only 2 tournaments left in the year, Bob has a near lock on Player of the Year honors, but anything can happen.

Out of a full bracket of 8 players, Dale Berlin took home his first tournament win of the year on Sunday with a victory over eventual second place winner David Rearick. The three points leaders ended up in the consolation bracket early, allowing both Dale and David to narrow the gap among the top 5. Bob Hickey maintains his position at the top of the table with his 3rd place finish this month.

We had enough players this month for a normal bracket tournament, including newcomer John Bath. John did well enough to earn a place in the final against eventual overall winner Mike Rezai, and then a consolation final victory against Bob Hickey for a second place finish!Mike’s win allowed him to gain 10 points on Bob in the Masters Points race, coming to within 36 points.

Congratulations to Mike on his win this month, and welcome to John! The next monthly tournament will be held on September 8th. I’d like us to try to get our numbers up again for the next tournament. We had a strong start to the year, and have been the victim of the summer doldrums as of later. Come on out if you haven’t made it out for a few months!

Five brave souls showed up for the July Monthly Tournament, and those in attendance opted to play a round-robin format with 7-point matches. After all was said and done, 2 players – Bob Hickey and Mike Rezai, finished at the top of the table with records of 3-1. Bob won the head-to-head matchup between them, and as a result took first place. Jason Marshall, finished in third place with a record of 2-2.

The Masters Points race remained largely unchanged with current leader Bob Hickey gaining only 5 points on current second place holder Mike Rezai. With 5 tournaments left in the year, it is certainly within reach for anyone. The current Masters Points standings can be found here.

This month saw second-time participant Fred Allen win 3 straight matches to win the 8-player May tournament. Fred becomes the third different tournament winner this year with his win and immediately vaults into 5th place overall in the yearly points race. The consolation final saw Chris Yep defeat Mike Rezai for second place, his second runner-up result of the year. That result earned Chris enough points to jump to 3rd overall.

Matching our previous high, 10 players came out on Sunday to compete in our monthly tournament for April, including one new player – Fred Allen, as well as 2 prodigal members back again – Doug Hill and Bram Binsky. This month saw Mike Rezai win for the second month in a row, tightening the race at the top of the points table for the year. Mike defeated David Rearick in the main event final. David went on to beat Dale Berlin in a topsy-turvy Consolation Final for his second runner-up result of the year.

The new year started with a record-tying field of 10 players, with four of those being first time tournament attendees! This first installment ended with Bob Hickey returning to winning ways and finishing in first place. The consolation final saw David Rearick best first-timer Natalie Hendricks, to round out the top 3. The updated standings for the 2013 points race can be found here.
